Announcement – 2024 Essay Prize Winners

We are delighted to announce the winners of our 2024 Essay Prizes, which were delayed due to last summer’s general election. Both prizes were judged by highly esteemed expert panels.

Congratulations to Daniel Woolridge of Mackie Academy in Stonehaven and Alice Arthur of the University of Edinburgh for their winning submissions! Both essays can be read and downloaded in the PDF viewers below.

Daniel’s essay reflects on the Scottish Parliament’s electoral system, focusing on how individual voters utilise it and its overall impact on representation.

Alice’s essay used British Election Study data to examine the connection between anti-immigration attitudes and support for UKIP at the 2015 General Election. It touches on themes highly relevant to current debates in UK politics.
